Hi, I'm Iva!
Here in the Midwest, we are currently in the season of Spring. I love to garden, even though I don’t have much time for it right now. But my son Lucas is an avid gardener and has been busy planting and working the soil in our vegetable garden. In fact, we have already been eating asparagus, rhubarb, and even some cilantro that came up from last year. The radishes, kale, spinach, and arugula are poking their tiny heads out of the soil as well!
I find myself having conversations with him like, what do you think the condition of the soil is? How can we increase the nutrients in the soil so that we have healthier plants and fewer bugs and weeds?

Our soil here in Iowa is dark and rich, but it depletes over time if we don’t keep it amended with nutrients. I was out walking the other morning after we had a shower of rain overnight. I saw an earthworm moving through the soil, and I was so excited because I knew it meant the soil was healthy! Soil is actually full of microorganisms, and teeming with life if it is healthy.
It got me thinking about how our mind is the soil for the seeds of our dreams, and if we neglect the soil, our dreams cannot take root, grow, and produce an abundant harvest.
We all have dreams and desires tucked away in the recesses of our hearts. Some of us are better at pulling them out and looking at them, and others of us tend to hide them away, afraid of what others might think if we actually whispered it out loud, what God put in our hearts. Maybe the dream is so big that you think there is no way that it could ever come to pass, so you keep it hidden and out of sight.
There are a lot of reasons why we might not actually walk out the dreams God places within us, but the number one reason that I have seen over and over and experienced myself is that if our level of self-worth is not aligned with who God says we are, that is the greatest barrier to fulfilling the dreams God has given to us!
Let me tell you, I have some pretty big dreams in my heart, and there are times that I tremble at the thought of what God is calling me to. And yet it is always an invitation for me to level up within my mind and ask myself, do my thoughts line up with who God says I am, because I can only go as far as my mind allows me to.
I love that we now have neuroscience to show us how our brains gather and store information, how they wire and fire, and how much the patterns in our brains affect our daily outcomes (90-95%)! We have the incredible privilege of using science to help us delve deeper into our subconscious and uncover the truth about who we are!
In Mathew 13, Jesus teaches the parable of the Sower. I would encourage you to go read that passage. Essentially, Jesus uses the image of a farmer going out to sow seed; if the soil is not healthy, the seed may grow but will wither and die or be choked out by thorns.
What are some signs that the soil in your mind is not healthy?
Negative Self-Talk and Limiting Beliefs:
Persistent negative thoughts, self-doubt, and limiting beliefs about your abilities can act like weeds choking out the seeds of dreams before they can sprout and grow
Stress, anxiety, and worry
This deprives the mind of the calm and focus needed to cultivate dreams.
Distractions and Lack of Focus
An overly cluttered mind, filled with distractions, is like soil compacted, making it difficult for dreams to take root and flourish.
If you find yourself dealing with any of these or wonder if you need to cultivate the soil of your mind, schedule a free strategy call with me here. On this call, I will help you uncover how to make sure the soil of your mind is healthy and full of nutrients so that your dreams can grow and flourish!
